Hair restoration is regarded as a very safe surgical procedure. After the operation, an over-the-counter analgesic is prescribed. Small crusts will appear around the area where the follicular units were placed; these will fall off in 4 to 7 days. Numbness may also be felt in the donor and/or recipient sites, but will disappear 4 to 8 weeks after the operation.
Although the hair from the transplanted follicular units will fall away, the unit will stay in place and a new hair will again start to grow in just 3 – 4 months after the procedure. Small pimples may temporarily appear when the hair starts growing. After the procedure, any swelling on the frontal area that may arise will disappear in 48 hours. Any minor scarring at the donor site can be easily disguised with the surrounding hair.
Post-operative complications are rare and will be discussed during the consultation.
